Zlatan Ibrahimovic has already decided where he'll play next season. So why hasn't he announced it yet?
He's waiting to get bored of all the rumors speculating on where he'll go.
"I want you to still write a lot of stories so I get excited when I see them because I want to see who is making up the best stories," Ibrahimovic said in a press conference. "When I'm tired of it I will let you know where I will go."
Naturally.
This is a rare situation where a player (or manager) actually likes tabloids' ability to invent rumors and cite "sources" to make it seem like a real thing that might happen. Normally, players get mad, saying that the media has no idea what they're talking about it, but Ibrahimovic isn't normal. He is better than that.
Ibrahimovic is a free agent after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired and both sides agreed to part ways. Most reports have linked him to Manchester United, who cannot offer Champions League soccer, but have a giant fan base, nearly unlimited funds to meet his monstrous wage demands and just hired Jose Mourinho, whom Ibrahimovic adores.
But while Ibrahimovic looks likely to sign with United, papers will continue to link him to MLS, China, Qatar, Bayern Munich, Malmo and pretty much any club they can find. Every time they do, Ibrahimovic will laugh. And when those laughs stop, then he'll tell us where he's going because the world runs on Zlatan Time, as it should
