Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has reportedly opened discussions over replacing Laurent Blanc as Paris Saint-Germain manager.
Blanc is under pressure at Parc des Princes because, despite leading PSG to three successive Ligue 1 titles, he has fallen short in Europe.
Meanwhile, Simeone has made Atletico a real force in the Champions League, taking them to two finals in three years, only to lose both times to Real Madrid.
The Argentine appeared dejected after last weekend’s penalty-shootout defeat in Milan and may feel that he has taken Atletico as far as he can.
The French champions seemingly see Simeone as the man to replicate their domestic dominance on a European stage, and talks have taken place between the 46-year-old and PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi, according to Yahoo Sport.
As Mexican newspaper Record reports, Simeone ruled himself out of the running for the Chelsea vacancy in March, before Antonio Conte was appointed.
Simeone is a fiery competitor, so it would seem odd for him to join PSG, where winning the title is practically a given, after having not considered coming to the Premier League.
Perhaps Atletico’s second Champions League final defeat and a La Liga title near-miss has convinced him that the time is right to leave. Or perhaps this report is utter codswallop.
