Hector Bellerin has been statistically proven to be the world’s most expensive defender.
The report was carried out by the CIES Football Observatory. The process entails concepts including the player’s age, contract length, performances and experience. CIES predicted that the Spaniard is actually worth £43.1 million.
According to CIES, Bellerin is worth more than some of European football’s household names such as David Alaba for example. CIES predicted that the Bayern Munich left-back is worth £37.5 million.
Although these prices may not be completely accurate as we do not live in a world where players’ values are based completely off statistical research, the sentiment behind them is the most important thing. The prices represent what a fantastic player Bellerin has become and highlight the magnitude of his worth.

Bellerin consolidated a starting place at right-back for Arsenal last season following shrugging off competition from Mathieu Debuchy. The Spaniard has impressed critics and supporters with his explosive performances and his composure on the ball, which has seen him pick up numerous assists.
Bellerin’s achievements with Arsenal even earned him a call-up to the Spanish national team for their upcoming European Championship finals appearance in France.
These reports coming from the CIES Football Observatory follow speculation of Barcelona’s interest in the 21-year-old. According to numerous outlets, including the Evening Standard, Barcelona are keen to sign the Spaniard following the reported departure (via the Mirror) of Dani Alves to Juventus.
It comes as no surprise as Bellerin originally came from Barcelona’s academy and signed for Arsenal at the age of 16 before signing his first professional contract with the club in 2012
