  • Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez has dismissed the notion that some of his club's key players were looking toward the exit door.
    He told reporters at the club's Ciutat Esportiva compound that rumours that Brazilian attacker Neymar was weighing up a move to Real Madrid were untrue.
    'Neymar will stay. He will reach an agreement with Barça and he will be here for a long time.' said Fernandez.

    Negotiations between Barcelona and the 24-year-old over a new contract are ongoing, he said. 
    'The club will make it public when the extension is to be made.'

    Fernandez believes Lionel Messi's current tax fraud case is unlikely to affect his play or his plans to stay on in Spain.
    'I don't think it will have any effect on him whatsoever,' he said, adding that 'he's happy here and so are his family. I'm not concerned in the slightest that he'll leave.' 
    Fernandez also said he believed Javier Mascherano would stay at the club.
    'I don't have the slightest doubt that Mascherano will stay here. He is a vital player,' he said
