Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed that only a clear endorsement from the United States could persuade Germany to support Ukraine’s bid to join NATO. Germany, which has shown reluctance toward Ukraine's membership due to concerns over ongoing conflict, might shift its position if the U.S. takes a firm stance. Zelenskyy emphasized that U.S. approval would likely be the key to unlocking broader European backing for Ukraine's NATO aspirations.

Zelenskyy has been actively seeking stronger security guarantees for Ukraine, especially in the form of NATO membership, amid the ongoing war with Russia.
