We’ve all read about aging boobs and ways to prevent your breasts from sagging too soon. Our faces and skin aren’t left out. So many articles and videos on what happens to our skin as we age. But as it turns out, many of us don’t actually know as much as we need to know about those vaginas we’ve had  our whole lives.

Except you are planning on doing a Bruce Jenner, you are going to have that vagina for the rest of your life and they are going to go through many changes, but can remain beautiful at any age.  So, here is a brief overview of some of the things to expect over the next 20 to 30 years.  

  IN YOUR 20’S  You are done with puberty and you are now an adult, so is your vagina. But the outer ‘lips’ of your vagina (labia majora) is still catching up on this adulthood. As you grow, the outer ‘lips’ are likely to shrink because subcutaneous fat decreases with age.  At this age, you should also know what your vaginal discharges are trying to tell you.  

  IN YOUR 30’S  The inner ‘lips’ that encircle your clitoris and vaginal opening (labia minora) are likely to become darkened. This is a result of hormonal changes that comes with aging or pregnancy. Don’t fret, your vagina is perfectly normal.  Also, after pregnancy, the pelvic floor can be stretched and the muscles of the pelvic floor weakened. This can lead to urinary incontinence and a decreased intensity during sexual orgasm.  Kegel exercises are recommended after a woman gives birth to strengthen the  pelvic floor.

IN YOUR 40’S  The decade before menopause, egg supply dwindles in your early 40s, you still ovulates and have your period, but the cycles will get shorter.  Aging and other day-to-day factors are likely to take its toll on the pelvic floor, straining organs and causing bladder leakage or a heavy feeling down below. You need to take Kegel exercises serious to reduce bladder leakage.  Estrogen levels becomes lower and in turn results to thinning and drying of the vaginal walls, which can cause itching, burning, and redness. Regular sex can help (Wink!).    

IN YOUR 50’S  Your vagina and the surrounding area are in for many more changes  after menopause strikes.
