Some Nigerians on social media have challenged the claims by Yemi Osinbajo that President Muhammadu Buhari is hale and hearty and would return to the country as soon as he completes the necessary tests recommended by his doctors in the United Kingdom.
The social media users were reacting to the assurances Osinbajo gave on Buri’s health status on Monday, February 6, when journalists approached him for a chat shortly after his reported telephone conversation with the president.
The acting president had said: “Let me first say the President is hale and hearty. I spoke to him just this afternoon and we had a fairly long conversation, he is in good shape and very chatty.”
He disclosed that the conversation was focused on the economy, the budget and goings on in the country.
The President was “interested in knowing about the budget process and how far we had gone,” especially with efforts aimed at taking the country out of recession.
“As you know we had a meeting today with the private sector on the economic recovery and growth plan and he was interested in knowing what was happening with that, with the economic recovery and growth plan and what we are doing with the private sector.”
However, Osinbajo’s assurances to Nigerians that Buhari is in good health has not cooled frayed nerves of some citizens who are insisting that mere words were insuficient proof that Buhari was well.
Those angered by Osinbajo’s statements have also accused him of lying to cover up the true state of Buhari’s health.
They queried why Osinbajo's claim on Buhari's health differed from that of other prominent Nigerians who said the president was sick and needed prayers.
The group also alleged that Osinbajo had been compromised by certain cabals in Aso Rock who are hiding the truth from Nigerians.
