– The former Lyn Oslo midfielder has not played for the London club this season despite his fine form with the national team Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has stated that Chelsea players are

physically fitter under new coach Antonio Conte than they were during the reign of Jose Mourinho.

The Olympic bronze medalist stressed that one of the reasons the Italian tactician was employed was to ensure that players were placed under better physical conditions.

He said: “One thing is for sure, is that the team is a lot fitter this season. A lot of players are going to be much, much fitter and that is only going to help the team.

“Obviously, quite a lot was made last year that a lot of the players were not fit, so the club decided to go for someone to make sure we are fit.

The 29-year-old also hinted that the relationship between the manager and the players is fantastic, adding that there is a high level of co-operation.

“The players have responded very well to him; we are going with whatever the manager wants to do in training, everyone is putting in their best and we have to keep going his way.

“We have to make sure we keep doing whatever the manager wants to do and if we can improve the team that way then I think everybody is on board with that,” said Mikel.

Mikel has not featured for the Stamford Bridge club this season despite showing top form with the Super Eagles and it has been rumoured that the 29-year-old could be leaving the London club in the January transfer window.

The former Lyn Oslo midfielder captained the Super Eagles side that defeated Zambia 2 – 1 in Ndola on October 9, with goals from Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheancho.
