MANCHESTER CITY held talks with representatives of Barcelona stars Lionel Messi and Neymar this summer, according to reports.
New boss Pep Guardiola was after a huge name to kickstart his City revolution.
Neymar was also wanted by Manchester United, while the player's agent Wagner Ribeiroconfirmed Paris Saint-Germain were willing to offer him a private jet and extortianate wages to bring him to France.
According to The Sun, City had three conservations with both players' representatives in order to try and broker a stunning transfer.
However, they were unsuccessful and Guardiola had to settle for the likes of Leroy Sane and Nolito instead.
Guardiola previously worked with Messi during his four-year spell in charge of Barcelona, where he won the Champions League twice.
He also laid the groundwork for the deal to bring Neymar to the Nou Camp, with the Brazil international signing from Santos in 2013.
City are aiming to continue their flawless start under Guardiola when they face Bournemouthat the Etihad Stadium today (3pm).
