Manchester rivals set to 'go to war' over German midfielder to set up the next transfer saga

Man United and Man City are in a fascinating battle in the Premier League this season and it looks like their ongoing rivalry will extend into the transfer market next summer.

As Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola look to shape their new squads, the two clubs are linked with a host of big players but the name of one particular star continuously pops up in rumours about upcoming transfers.

Toni Kroos has long been targeted by Man United, with David Moyes trying hard to sign the German maestro during his ill-fated spell at Old Trafford. Kroos has a contract with Real Madrid until 2020, but reports in Spain suggest that both the Red Devils and their local rivals will seek to bring the midfielder to Manchester next summer.
Pep Guardiola worked with Kroos at Bayern Munich, and although he sold the German to Real Madrid, he is apparently keen to reunite with his ex-player at City.
Speaking on Spanish TV, prominent football journalist Pipi Estrada said that the two clubs are going to go to 'war' over Kroos, which could signal the start of the next long-running transfer saga, after Paul Pogba this year and Raheem Sterling in 2015.
Kroos (26) has won 46 caps for Germany, winning the World Cup in 2014.
