Renato Sanches' hospital records prove he is 18

Further evidence - and perhaps the most concrete yet - has emerged that should settle the argument once and for all over the age of Renato Sanches.

Guy Roux, the legendary French coach, caused a stir earlier this week after claiming the Portugal and Bayern Munich midfielder was at least “23 or 24”.

This prompted Sanches to hit back at the 77-year-old. "I grew up in Portugal, I spent 10 years at Benfica, how can I be 25?” the talented teenager, who has starred at Euro 2016, was quoted as telling Sapo Desporto by AS. “There is no logic to what some people say."

A video was then posted online which showed a 13-year-old Sanchez awkwardly conducting his first televised interview, while in Benfica’s youth ranks, in 2010.

Sanches threatened to sue Roux over his comments and now Portuguese outlet Diario de Noticias have obtained hospital records proving the gifted starlet is still a teenager.

The screenshot shows all of Sanches’ details including, crucially, his date of birth as August 18 1997.

He was born at 15:25 and weighed just over 2.5 kilograms - which is around 5.5 pounds.

Given the evidence now on the table, Sanches is surely well within his rights to expect a formal apology from Roux.

SANCHES WILL BE FOCUSED ON THE EURO 2016 FINAL

In the meantime, the midfielder will be fully focused on the small matter of Sunday’s Euro 2016 final against France.

Portugal head into the match as the underdogs but, with the likes of Sanches and Cristiano Ronaldo growing into the tournament, Fernando Santos’ side have a real opportunity to upset the odds.
