  • Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale came together in an emotional embrace after Portugal beat Wales to progress to the Euro 2016 final.
    Ronaldo made it to his second European Championship final after his thumping header gave his side the lead and Nani tapped in from close range to seal a 2-0 victory in the semi-final on Wednesday.
    The Portuguese star found it difficult to contain his emotion as he celebrated after the final whistle but stopped to console his Real Madrid team-mate Bale.

    The match at the Stade de Lyon was billed as a clash between Ronaldo and Bale and rightly the pair put aside national rivalry to share a special moment on the pitch.
    Ronaldo, seeing Bale stood on his own while he collected his thoughts, went over to his Real team-mate.
    He shook his hand before hugging the Wales star who offered so much to his nation and Chris Coleman's team at this summer's tournament.

    Ronaldo, who will aim to win his first silverware with his country on Sunday in the Stade de France, was asked about the few seconds he shared with Bale after the match.
    'I can't tell you what went on,' he said.
    'I congratulated them on their run, thy had an amazing run. They were the shining star here, the revelation team.
    'I wished them good luck and as for the rest I would rather not say.'

    Bale, fighting back the disappointment, focused on the positives following his side's defeat.
    He said: 'We're bitterly disappointed to be so close to the final but we have to be proud. We have achieved a lot.  
    'We've had a taste of it now and we look forward to the future. We have confidence. We don't just want to turn up to one tournament, it's about the bigger picture for us
