Three things led Vardy to reject Arsenal – report

Jamie Vardy opted to stay at Leicester and reject overtures from Arsenal over three things in particular, according to Sky Sports.

It was announced on Thursday that Vardy had agreed a four-year deal to remain Premier League champions Leicester, despite overtures from Arsenal.

The Gunners had triggered the striker’s £20m release clause before the commencement of Euro 2016, where he has scored one goal in two games with England.

Many believed that a decision on his future would be made only after the tournament had finished, but, in a move that has angered Football Association officials, a renewed deal with Leicester was announced.

According to Sky Sports, three things led Vardy to reject Arsenal in favour of staying with the Foxes.

First, the England international believes Leicester ‘have something special as a squad’, and he is interested to see how they fare under Claudio Ranieri in the Champions League next season.

Unsurprisingly, Vardy also had supposed ‘reservations’ over Arsenal’s style of play, as the Gunners play a more possession-based game, as opposed to Leicester’s counter-attacking juggernaut.

Finally, the forward ‘was not given guarantees’ by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger that ‘he would not be played out of position at the Emirates’
