Manchester United have told Ryan Giggs to ‘name his job’ but with the added caveat that assistant manager is not one of the options.
Sportsmail understands that following the appointment of Jose Mourinho, Giggs was told to think about creating a role he would feel comfortable with, rather than being made a specific offer.
Whether the Welshman, who enjoyed a break in Dubai following the discussions, is inclined to respond with a suggestion remains unclear.

Giggs has been told to 'name his job' by Manchester United but he cannot be assistant manager
Giggs, who has spent 29 years at the club, was assistant to both David Moyes and Louis van Gaal. He is said to have understood that he would be in line for the manager’s role at Old Trafford which has gone to Mourinho.
The new incumbent will bring his trusted lieutenants with him to Manchester, a group which includes his number two Rui Faria, who is expected to be named assistant manager
That means that Giggs, 42, may view any new role as an effective demotion.
The former player was said to be saddened by developments and on the verge of ending an association that dates back to his 14th birthday.
He is understood to be keen to enter the world of management, however suitable jobs are few and far between.
Friends are known to have told Giggs that the opportunity to work alongside Mourinho is not one to be dismissed and he is considering remaining at the club.

United are keen not to put any pressure on the former winger and are not thought to have set a deadline for his decision.
Meanwhile, Mourinho has wasted no time in getting to work at Old Trafford. A source said the Portuguese has been working overtime in a bid to bring a number of new faces to the club.
He was at United for Sunday night’s Soccer Aid match, at which he was supposed to manage the England team.
He made the decision to withdraw as he feels his first public visit to the home dugout should be on United business.
