Manchester United have contacted Barcelona about the possibility of signing Lionel Messi this summer, according to reports.

The Red Devils are on the lookout for a number of new signings following Jose Mourinho’s appointment as the club’s new manager last week.

The Portuguese coach is yet to bring any players to Old Trafford following his appointment on a three-year contract as Louis van Gaal’s successor.

United are believed to be open to making some attacking reinforcements this summer as the bid to become title challengers next season.

The report says that the Premier League club have made two approaches in the last three weeks to determine whether Barcelona could be interested in selling the Argentina international.
