Why Leicester Should Sign This Portuguese Midfield Powerhouse If Kanté Leaves This Summer
With the season Leicester are having, you can be sure that a few clubs will want to sign some of their star performers in the summer. Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy and N’Golo Kanté are perhaps the three players who will be on other clubs’ shopping list and the Foxes should prepare for life after the three starts even though they are likely to play hardball in selling their stars so early after such a successful season.
N’Golo Kanté is already attracting attention from Manchester United and if they make a bid that will be too hard to turn down, the Leicester fans could see one of their heroes depart in the summer. Leicester, however, will be equipped with good money this summer and expect a few signings from Claudio Ranieri.
The club could go after Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho according toreports. if Kanté leaves. The Frenchman has been impeccable in the defensive role for his side and has been a key contributor in Ranieri’s reactive approach to stop teams from playing and hitting them on the counter for most of the time. While his defensive attributes have been top notch, Kanté has also been a livewire while going forward with his pace and drive.
After deciding not to move abroad at a young age, Carvalho has developed really well in the last couple of seasons and is perhaps ready to move now. Sporting slapped a massive fee of£37ma couple of years ago when interest in him was high. Now, he could cost lesser than that amount.
Good replacement for Kanté?
Carvalho’s best position is the same as Kante’s and yes, he is a like for like replacement for the Frenchman. The Portuguese is a midfield destroyer and his passing is pretty sound. He might take a few games to get acclimatised to the pace of the Premier League, though.
What Carvalho will also bring to the table are his physicality and aerial prowess. The 24-year old is a more imposing figure than Kanté.
With the Champions League nights set to take place at Leicester next season, the club needs to ensure that they not only replace Kanté (if he leaves) with someone good but also sign a few more squad players to maintain the freshness when they play two games in the span of a few days.

The Frenchman came off the bench in the second half of the first leg away against Atletico where Bayern suffered a 0-1 defeat.
He then had to sit out a Bundesliga tie against Borussia Monchengladbach, after complaining of a back problem, but he insists that he is ready to play again.
