Reports Suggest Manchester United Ready To Spend £300 Million This Summer
If all transfer news and reports were to be believed, Manchester United are about to spend an obscene amount of money this summer.
The Premier League season is still three games away from it’s conclusion and already the transfer market appears to be in meltdown. Every day new reports emerge of the latest target for a big name club and the prices being quoted are become increasingly ridiculous.
Manchester United seem to be ever present among the transfer rumours, and now yet another target has emerged in the media for the Red Devils, that being Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Gabon international has been in fine form this season, scoring 37 times, and would certainly be regarded an excellent striking option for United as they look to recruit a top class striker to help alleviate the pressure on the young shoulders of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford. According to the Daily Mail, it would take in the region of £70 million to bring Aubameyang to Old Trafford.
£70 million, on top of the reported (via the Daily Mail) £46 million it will cost to acquire Benfica teenager Renato Sanches.
Add to this further reports, this time via Metro, that Gonzalo Higuain of Napoli is about to see his £74 million release clause triggered by United.
Next up it’s the turn of Southampton’s Sadio Mane, who rated at £30 million, is a reported (via the Daily Star) to be a target for United.
Finally, throw into the mix the all but official news that José Mourinho is taking over in the summer on a £60 million three year deal.
Adding the lot together, it would appear Manchester United are willing to spend in the region of £280 million, according to reports.
With further rumblings in the media about a possible swoop for Real Mardid’s James Rodriguez, PSG’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Toni Kroos this figure is now headed well north of £300 million.
Given that current United boss Louis van Gaal has spent somewhere in the region of £250 million in his two season in charge at the club, if all reports are to be believed, United will be spending in the region of half a billion (yes, billion) in the space of three seasons.
If Mourinho is indeed headed to United and the transfer reports are correct, he will be starting life at United with huge pressure on his shoulders to deliver silverware and European qualification.
