Pablo Zabaleta Injury: Updates on Manchester City Defender's Calf and Return

Manchester City full-back Pablo Zabaleta will not be appearing in any more Premier League matches this season, as the Argentinian announced he has suffered a calf tear that will sideline him for the immediate future.

Zabaleta took to Twitter to announce he's set for a spell on the sideline, as he has suffered a Grade 2 tear to his left calf: "Sadly, after an MRI scan, I can confirm a muscle tear Grade 2 in my left calf which is around 3 weeks off."
The 31-year-old likely suffered the injury during Sunday's Premier League loss against Southampton, a match in which he played the full 90 minutes. Bacary Sagna is expected to start Wednesday's UEFA Champions League clash with Real Madrid.
Sagna has been the regular starter at the right-back position for the bulk of the season, and he played the full 90 minutes during the first leg of City's UEFA Champions League contest with Los Blancos.
Zabaleta is one of City's most experienced and vital depth options, and his contributions will be missed at the Estadio Bernabeu in case of an injury to Sagna. The three-week recovery period also means he won't be appearing in any more Premier League contests this season, although he might return to health in time for the Champions League final, should the Citizens qualify.
