Vacancies at FIRS! 700,000 apply for 500 jobs

– Chairman of FIRS, Tunde Fowler said more than 2,000 candidates with first class degrees applied for jobs at the Service but the parastatal needs just 500

 – Fowler told House of Representatives Committee on Public Petition that due process was being followed in the recruitment exercise and it was not true that some people were being excluded

Vanguard reports that Fowler’s appearance at the lower house of legislature followed a petition from some applicants claiming that they were excluded from the employment processes.

But Fowler said that the organisation received more than 700,000 applications from the recent job advert it placed in some national dailies.

Fowler said more than 2,000 of the 700,000 applicants had first class degrees in various disciplines and were qualified to be engage by the Service but noted that the FIRS would recruit only 500 people.

The exercise, he said, was designed to increase manpower for tax revenue collection and expand the country’s revenue base.

He however assured the Reps that the organisation would ensure fairness and due process are followed in the recruitment process.

 “We have secured waiver and endorsement from the Federal Character Commission in order to ensure that the right thing is done,

’’ he concluded. Meanwhile, erudite lawyer and human rights activist Femi Falana has said President Muhammadu Buhari’s request for a $29.960bn loan from the national assembly would make life harder for the younger generation who would have to pay back the debt.
