Juan Mata is convinced that Manchester United can win the Premier League title this season under Jose Mourinho.

The Red Devils have endured a mixed start to the new season, after they slumped to back to back top-flight defeats following three straight victories in their opening games.

Mourinho has been tasked with steering United back to the top of English football after his appointment as Louis van Gaal’s successor back in May.

The Red Devils have not won the Premier League title since their last triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson in the 2012-13 season.

It remains to be seen whether United can sustain a genuine title challenge this term after their fifth-placed finish in the top flight last season.

However, Mata appears confident that he and his team-mates can achieve success this season.

Speaking in an interview with COPE, as quoted by Football Espana, before Sunday’s clash with Stoke, Mata said: “I really want to lift titles at Manchester United, the Premier League is a trophy I have never won but I believe we can do it with this group.

“It was disappointing not to go to the European Championships this summer but I’m happy to be back involved and Julen Lopetegui is a good manager.”
