On Sunday, October 9, 2016, Wizkid‘s in-law, Seun Rowland Awoniyi died in a US hospital after a long battle with cancer.
Since his death no official statement has been made by his immediate family but his social media page has been filled with many rest in peace messages.
Awoniyi is Wizkid’s elder sister’s Yetunde Balogun husband with who she had two children. It took the Starboy music act 10 long days to comment on the death of his late brother-in-law on his social media page.
Mourning him Wizkid took to his Twitter handle and wrote:
Meanwhile, Flavour had beaten Wizkid, Tiwa Savage and Diamond Platnumz to the Best Artist in Africa award at the recently held third edition of African Muzik Magazine Awards.
Wizkid’s album AYO was a sold out and it launched him big time into the international market. It saw many international artists dancing to in and also got him collaborations with Drake, DJ Henry, Tinnie Tempah and others.
