Jose Mourinho is working behind the scenes to give Alex Ferguson more power at Manchester United

Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho

After a tumultuous few weeks, Jose Mourinho seems to have regained momentum at Old Trafford

After dropping Wayne Rooney from his first XI, The Special One looks to have discovered his best Man United team, with the Red Devils turning in a season's best performance in demolishing Leicester last Saturday.

And as Mourinho continues to seek improvement on the pitch, he is apparently looking to change things behind the scenes too. Since retiring as United manager in 2013, Alex Ferguson has been a director on the club's 'football board'.
However, the United legend has been increasingly sidelined at Old Trafford, with the club's PLC board - consisting of the Glazer family and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward among others - making the big decisions.
Rather than try and minimise Ferguson's presence, Mourinho is apparently trying to increase the Scot's influence in retirement.
According to Glasgow Live, Mourinho wants Ferguson's football board to be more closely integrated with the key decision makers, giving the 74-year-old a bigger say in how the club is run.
With Mourinho's standing at Old Trafford secure once more after a rocky few weeks, the Portuguese manager is obviously hoping that having Ferguson as an ally behind the scenes will work to his favour.
