David Moyes wanted Toni Kroos to replace Paul Scholes

Toni Kroos eventually signed for Real Madrid.

David Moyes appears to have a very clear idea as to why he failed as Manchester United manager, frequently centering his argument around the club's shortcomings in the summer transfer market.
He has already spoken at length about his efforts to sign Gareth Bale from Tottenham Hotspur while a bid for Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara, both of Barcelona at the time, were well documented.
But no player was linked more than Bayern Munich star Toni Kroos. Reports of Manchester United's interest dominated the sports pages for much of Moyes' 11 months in charge at Old Trafford.
Kroos was in the centre of a contract disagreement with the Bavarian outfit and Moyes believed he had the chance to take advantage. But he ultimately failed and the German midfielder moved to Real Madrid instead, where he has gone on to become a key part of the team.
Now Moyes has given an insight into why he wanted to sign Kroos so badly, saying he believed he had the ability to replace Paul Scholes in the centre of Manchester United's team. Quite a claim
