After watching his compatriots beat Spain 2-0 at Euro 2016, Mario Balotelli has admitted he wishes he could be in France representing his country.
In a terrific performance from Italy, goals from Giorgio Chiellini and Graziano Pelle sealed a first win over Spain in a major tournament since 1994.
Even though his poor form this season for AC Milan meant a call up to Antonio Conte’s squad was never on the cards, Balotelli was looking on with envy.
However, there was praise from the striker, not only for Italy’s players, but also the Azzurri fans who created a great atmosphere at the Stade de France.
As well as watching Italy at Euro 2016, Balotelli will also be focusing on his future with latest reports suggesting his parent club Liverpool will welcome back the striker after his disappointing spell at Milan this season.
For the Italy squad they can look forward to a quarter-final battle against Germany on Saturday in Bordeaux.
