SPECULATION ABOUT LVG FUTURE REACHES FEVER PITCH
Manchester United will sack Louis Van Gaal on Monday and appoint Jose Mourinho as his successor on Tuesday according to widespread reports.
The BBC and the Daily Telegraph were the media outlets leading the speculation that Saturday's dramatic FA Cup final victory would not be enough to keep the Dutchman in the job after they failed to qualify for next season's Champions League.
The moves have been rumoured since as far back as last December as Utd endured a horrific run of form and fans were served up a dreadful standard of insipid displays.
Mourinho had been sacked by Chelsea earlier that month as their disastrous defense of the Premier League crown they won in the 2014/15 season unfolded.
Despite the Portuguese's availability, Utd supremo Ed Woodward was loathe to be seen to sack another manager he appointed who had failed to fulfill his remit so Van Gaal's future was believed to rest on his ability to secure a top-four position.
Having failed in that objective, it is believed the axe will fall on Van Gaal in the coming days and a new era under Jose Mourinho will begin.
However, when asked after Saturday's 2-1 extra-time win over Crystal Palace if he would still be in the Old Trafford hotseat next season, Van Gaal replied, "I hope to see you.....I show you the cup. I don’t discuss (my future) with the media.”
On Sunday morning Van Gaal was asked by a Sky Sports reporter outside the team hotel to stop and speak to him but the former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager simply said "It's over" further fuelling speculation he is on the brink of leaving Utd
