Antoine Griezmann scores crucial Champions League goal vs Bayern (Video)
Antoine Griezmann pulled Atletico Madrid ahead on aggregate over Bayern Munich in the Champions League
Bayern Munich looked like they had taken care of business on
their home pitch in the first half of the second leg of
their Champions League semifinals matchup with Atletico Madrid.
With a Xabi Alonso free kick finding the back of the net,
Bayern had tied Atletico on aggregate and, at the very least,
would force extra time for the right to advance to the Champions League final.
Unfortunately for them, Antonine Griezmann had other plans for the day and for Atletico’s fate.
After a poor play forward from Bayern, Atletico started a counter-attack that found Griezmann charging forward.
He played a quick ball to Fernando Torres to get the defense on its heels even more so and then continued making his run.
Torres found the Frenchman Griezmann with a gorgeous pass back and it
was Griezmann alone in the open field with only Manuel Neuer to beat. He delivered a rip past the German keeper for a crucial goal:
Not only did Griezmann’s goal tie Tuesday’s contest at 1-1 and put them ahead 2-1 in the aggregate,
but it was also huge in regards to away goal. Essentially, the goal put Bayern in a position where
they would have to score two goals to stay alive in the Champions League as Griezmann
gave Atletico the advantage on away goals.
What a beautiful way to give your team such a huge advantage.
