The Blues' fans try a last gasp attempt to give their captain the honour that they feel he deserves.
John Terry’s glittering Chelsea career came to the worst possible end on Saturday afternoon, so far it looks like it though, as the defender ruled himself out of the club’s final two matches of the season by getting a second yellow card during extra time against Sunderland.
An inexplicable red card – two yellows as a matter of fact – in the side’s 3-2 defeat to Sunderland has ruled him out of the club’s final two fixtures. This means that the 35-year-old has ruled himself out of his own farewell party, i.e. if he is not getting a contract extension.
With Terry not being given a contract extension so far, rumours of him moving to China, MLS or Qatar have been circulating in the market. Chelsea legend, Zola is keen on bringing Terry to Qatari club Al Arabi, where he is the manager.
Former teammate, Demba Ba is currently playing for Shanghai Shenhua and he has urged the Chelsea legend to follow him to the lucrative Chinese Super League. Another Chelsea old-boy Dan Petrescu is the boss at Jiangsu Suning — and would not mind having Terry to bolster his squad, either. These are just a few of the rumors, trust me there are a lot more.
Terry has reiterated his desire to stay at Chelsea beyond his current contract; he was recently quoted in the Guardian, saying: ” I have made it clear to the club I want to stay. If not, I will be playing [elsewhere]. I don’t know whether that will be Italy, MLS, China or Qatar.”
Holding midfielder Nemanja Matic confirmed in an interview with the Telegraph that the squad expect the former England captain to depart Stamford Bridge, he said:
“We know what he has done for this club and what he has won. All of us in the team wish him all the best for the future and of course this is not a good way to finish in a club but we don’t forget what he won and what he has already done.”
Mark Schwarzer, former teammate of Terry was quoted saying by BBC the following regarding Terry’s future at Chelsea:
Q: Would you keep John Terry? - Mark Schwarzer: "I would, yes. I was very, very fortunate to play for Chelsea.“
Mark Schwarzer: "The 18 months I was there, John Terry was incredible, unbelievable professional. I can’t say a bad word about him. John Terry was the first person that came to me and said, 'if there is anything you need, just ask me.’ John Terry was always someone you could talk to about anything. It’s well documented what he as done in his career. People go through ups and downs in their careers, he has definitely learnt from things that happened in the past. I just hope this isn’t one of those instances where Terry isn't able to finish how he should - in front of his own fans.“
