Bayern Munich sign Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund following Chelsea links
Moving on: Mats Hummels will leave Borussia Dortmund for rivals Bayern Munich this summer
Bayern Munich have today confirmed the signing of Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels on a five-year contract, weeks after the Germany World Cup winner was linked with a move to the Premier League.
The Bundesliga champions revealed the deal, which is subject to a medical, via social media on Tuesday shortly after confirming the signing of reported Manchester United target Renato Sanches.
Hummels, who had one year left on his current deal in Dortmund, admitted his decision to look for a new challenge following eight-and-a-half years at the club was due to a desire to win more silverware.
He will now become the third player after Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski to switch Dortmund for their fierce rivals in recent years.
Reaction: Borussia Dortmund fans held up a banner showing their
disappointment about Mats Hummels' rumoured move to Bayern Munich in
April
Dortmund fans are also likely to be disappointed following news of
Hummels' departure to Bayern, with some of the club's supporters booing
and whistling the 27-year-old during their 5-1 win over Wolfsburg in
late April.Fans also held up a banner reading "The captain is abandoning the ship - the sooner the better!" during the game, which resulted in Hummels denying he had asked to join Bayern.
Hummels will now face his new side when Dortmund play Bayern in the German Cup final on 21 May.
